I did my little bit of shoveling today, the house, (driveway and walk), the sidewalk in front of the Beacon office, and cleaned up the lot a bit at our New Windsor office. I know when it gets this cold salt doesn't do much good, but I threw down some salt and sand anyway figuring even if it doesn't melt the icy parts it will at least give some grit for traction.
The bit of forced exercise felt good even as the cold stung my face a little. It helped remind me of the importance of covering up.
This is the weather for warm socks, good gloves, hats, scarves, long johns, multiple layers, and something to cover your face, as I learned while shoveling. I ended up taking an extra scarf and wrapping it around my face to keep that warm.
I heard on the news that it only takes about 15 minutes to get frostbite on exposed skin at theses temperatures. I am sure with a child it will be even less, so please bundle them up and though fresh air is good, don't let them stay out too long in this.
So, what's your favorite way to shake off the cold?
